We are left with ten years only
to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The Secretary-General of United
Nations is calling everyone to mobilize a striving and immediate Decade
of Action to meet the Goals by 2030.
We
are hopeful because human has the ability to deliver the
extraordinary. The 2030 Agenda is a direction for a sustainable world. The
Global Goals are our finest hope for 5Ps of sustainability —for people, for
planet, for prosperity, for peace and for partnerships. Sustainable Development
Goals are needed to be delivered now. If not now, then when? If not us, then
who?
The
year 2020 has initiated us to endorse our global commitment towards achieving
the 2030 agenda. It is of too much importance now to mobilize for accelerated actions
because we are left with 10 years only. To intensify this Decade of Action, the
United Nations will call on the continual assistance of local, national and
global partners to safeguard and improve current efforts. The imperativeness of
this decade calls for stimulation of all sectors of society to secure better
participation and leadership, more resources and improved, game-changing
solutions to address growing inequality and the intensifying climate
emergency.
At
Present, people have better access to quality healthcare services, education
and larger prospects for decent employment. However, inequities, particularly
for women and girls, and the growing climate crisis jeopardize the growth accomplished
so far. Over the next ten years, the world is called to fight against these
threats to guarantee that by 2030 no one is left behind.
The Decade of Action is expected to (United
Nation, 2020):
- We will work to create an unstoppable force linked to the Global Goals.
- We will identify risks to ensure no one is left behind.
- This requires each of us to take action—individually and collectively, locally and globally.
- We must be the generation to end extreme poverty, win the race against climate change and conquer injustice and gender inequality.
- We will hold leaders to account and point to what is possible when action delivers results.
- We will shine a light on solutions that expand access and demonstrate the possibilities of ideas.
- We will drive sustainable innovation, financial investments, and technology—while making space in our communities and cities for young people to lead.
