“When you put the whole picture together,
recycling is the right thing to do.” –
Pam Shoemaker
Recycling is an emerging and hot topic right
now, and rightly so it is an important method of saving the majority of our
waste from landfill sites. Waste sent to landfill results in further use of
virgin materials, and a negative impact upon the environment in terms of
leeching and CO2 emissions. In fact, the recycling industry reduces CO2
emissions by 700 million tons per year, which is the equivalent of offsetting
the total CO2 emissions of the aviation industry each year!
To put envronement first priority, a day is
celebrated to help to recognize the importance of recycling and to restore the
resources because every year earth yields millions of tons of natural resources
to be transformed into consumable.
At some point, there will be nothing left. That’s why as a planet we
must, think again about what we throw away, seeing is not a waste, but an opportunity.
Global Recycling Day was created in 2018 to
help recognize, and celebrate, the importance recycling plays in preserving our
precious primary resources and securing the future of our planet. And now it is
been celebrated on 18, march .It is a Day for the whole world to come together,
and put the planet first and help people to think of recyclables as a
resource — as the planet’s Seventh Resource in fact, after the six natural
resources (water, air, coal, oil, natural gas, and minerals). All of our
primary resources need conserving, and recycling is a huge help in this as it
reduces our use of them significantly.
Intention of celebratim this day is to change
the mindset of governments, businesses, communities, and above all individuals and
making them think of recycling as a resource instead of just waste. It also
aims to reinforce the idea that recycling is a global issue and needs to be
tackled as such in order to make big changes.
According to a study, global production of waste will
increase from 3.5 million tons per day in 2010 to 6 million tone per day
in 2025. Given these alarming statistics, it is important that we become
aware and act individually to see the value of recycling (like Germany which is
recycling 65% of its waste) and how this waste can be reconverted.
